Our favorite day of the year is coming up here at Feminist Apparel: and that is International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th!

It is a global day that the UN officially created in 1975 to promote women's rights. Today, we continue to celebrate on March 8th the achievements of women: socially, economically & politically. We also use it to draw attention to gender inequality in society, and accelerate gender parity. Each & every individual plays an important part. As Gloria Steinem, a world-renowned feminist writer & champion said: 

"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."

It is through collective action & a joint mission that we will achieve our ultimate goal: a truly inclusive society. If you'd like to participate this year, then this page is here to help you by showing how everyone can get involved, make a difference & spread the message: that an equal world is an enabled world.

This Year’s Theme & Focus: #EachforEqual

Each year, the IWD team chooses a theme, message, pose & hashtag. This year it is this: an equal world is an enabled world. Click here to learn more about the theme & why they chose it. To help spread this globally, they have created the hashtag #EachforEqual. On March 8th, take the time to reflect & celebrate on social media while including this hashtag. Here are some examples of how you can do that: 

• On Twitter, tweet a female leader who has influenced you & thank her.
• On Facebook, share a story about how gender inequality has impacted your life & how you want it to change.
• On Instagram, share a picture of you striking the pose.

Each year, the IWD organization creates a pose that represents that year's theme. We recently released our International Women's Day 2020 Inspired Collection which features this pose:

Strike the pose, take a picture, and post it online to show your solidarity with women around the globe.

This is exactly what #EachforEqual stands for: Collective Individualism. Our actions, perspective, words & conversation don’t just impact us: they impact wider society too. Individually, we may seem small, but collectively, we are extremely powerful. Collectively, we can change the world, and each individual is a key part to the whole movement.

How Can I Be Involved In International Women’s Day?

There are lots of ways to get involved, all of which are important. Here are some ways to take part in International Women's Day 2020:

Take Part In An Official Women’s Day 2020 Event

IWD has teamed up with local event organizers, not just in the U.S. but around the globe. Use the IWD Event Search page to find one near you. Participate & share your experiences online with others to help spread the message. If you can't attend an event on March 8th, many cities around the globe are holding events throughout the week leading up to it.

Financially Help Charities That Support Gender Equality

Not only is this an important day for Feminism as a whole: it's an extremely important day for charities & for many, it is their biggest fundraising day. We'll be focusing on raising money this day towards our 2020 charities. Not everyone has the time to be able to attend an event & so this is another great way to get involved. 

STRIKE THE POSE & Share It On Social Media

No matter what: almost everybody can massively help the cause by getting involved by STRIKING THE #EachforEqual POSE & posting the picture online. When you do, be sure to include the official hashtags: #EachforEqual & #IWD2020. All of these posts combined will spread our message: that an equal world is an enabled world.

We know through the stories you have shared with us that many of you have participated in the yearly IWD events & helped forge a gender equal world. Each year that you do, you raise awareness for gender bias, imbalanced politics & you also celebrate the achievements of women around the globe. Individually it’s easy to feel like we aren’t making a difference, but collectively, we are an extremely powerful force & it takes each of us to make it. Thank you for your support.
