Care + Love: A FA Mixtape

· ·
you are worthy. you are powerful. you are the reason we fight for change. - FA

Since our sale will be trucking all month long, we wanted to give you something free that you can enjoy on this day when we’re typically buried with imagery and expectations of heteronormative romantic love.

This is our first playlist we compiled on Spotify that celebrates love in ALL of its forms — whether it be romantic, platonic, familial, self-love or anything in between. Enjoy our 14-song mixtape you can throw on to chill out to while you indulge in some much-needed self-care, feel yourself in celebration of self-love, or share with a special someone or group of people that make your life more full of warmth and joy. Hope you like it!

With an additional dose of love,

FA

We chose to highlight mostly a small group of WOC hip hop and R&B artists for this mixtape. These are the voices that represent the culture-makers in our society that oftentimes have their styles bitten before they hit it big themselves. This playlist was inspired by our purpose statement of 'amplifying marginalized voices.' We felt, especially, with the fact the we're dropping this in the middle of Black History Month, that it was of the utmost importance to uplift and highlight a group of black makers and creators and help steer our culture away from simply biting the culture they help push us towards without proper acknowledgment or credit. Wouldn't it be great if our culture truly loved black people and not just the style and trends that they create?

Here is a more in-depth look at a few of the artists from our playlist. (Hint: they're all dope.)

Tierra Whack is a 22 year old Philly native African-American rapper who has been taking the underground rap scene by storm. From her passionate metaphorical lyrics to her intracately symoblic visuals, Whack has shown versatility and conceptual creativity in her music by making a style that is uniquely hers. Her flexibility does not go unnoticed from the visuals she put together for her recent Mumbo Jumbo video to the straight bars she spit on Toe Jam, which when performed brings any crowd to life.

Kali Uchis, a 23 year old Colombian-American angelic singer, songwriter, producer, director AND fashion designer from Alexandria, Virginia has blessed us with her beautiful talent in so many ways. Often heard on songs with Tyler, the Creator like 'Perfect' and the latest 'After the Storm' or Daniel Caesar's 'Get You,'  Uchis often shares a romanticized point of view on radical self empowerment and self love, perfect to start each and every day. May we mention that her style is impeccable; she looks so good in her Slashed by Tia styles.

Mykki Blanco is an African American rapper, poet, performer and LGBTQIA+ rights activist from Orange County, California who has often been considered one of hip-hop's queer pioneers. Blanco, like many of our other artists, have shown diversity in their talents from publishing 'From the Silence of Duchamp to the Noise of Boys' to the statement masterpiece 'Loner featuring Jean Deaux.' What is so respectable about Blanco is his admirable strength and transparency with fans; from being open about being HIV positive to his experience with being arrested in Portugal back in 2014. His transparency has been motivational for fans globally, championing individuality and perserverence.
